Living near Windsor, Queen Elizabeth’s favourite weekend retreat, we are used to the presence of royalty, even if only from a distance.

However, 2016 is the Queens 90th birthday year, and that means Royal visits and walkabouts!

Mini thimbles school sang for the queen at the official opening of the new bandstand in Alexander garden, which was rather cool.

Then the following day the Queen and Prince Phillip went ‘walkabout’ in an open top car around the streets of Windsor.

She looked so pretty!

Then from one queen to another!

The queen of baking – Mary Berry! She came to our community for a brilliant question and answer session.

And what a truly wonderful lady she is, she spoke beautifully, answering all the questions, even some slightly daft ones! She was funny, witty and thoroughly engaging.

She very graciously signed books and had selfies with us all.

My own copy of her baking bible is my favourite cook book, her French Madelines are sublime and my go to recipe for bake sales and coffee dates.

A truly remarkable couple of weeks!

I’m off to do some more knitting now,

Thanks for popping by,

Happy Thimble xxx
